Kingston, N.Y., – Sept 15, 2011 – HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley® is pleased to announce an Autumn Garden Party benefiting the newly renovated Helen & Amos Newcombe Intensive Care Unit at Kingston Hospital and the Linda Young Ovarian Cancer Support Program at Benedictine Hospital. The Autumn Garden Party will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the estate of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Struzzieri at 40 Stroomzeit Lane, Saugerties, N.Y.
The event occurs during National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Ovarian cancer occurs in one out of every 72 women in the United States, and there is no reliable screening test for it. According to one study, however, early symptoms such as bloating, pelvic and abdominal pain, difficulty eating, and urinary symptoms presented in the early stages of the disease for nearly 90% of patients. Survival rates are greatly improved when the disease is presented early.
The Linda Young Ovarian Cancer Support Program at Benedictine Hospital has been serving women with ovarian cancer, their families and friends for the past 11 years. The Program exists under the umbrella of the Oncology Support Program which offers a variety of support groups, classes in wellness and the healing arts, and educational programs to the community.
The Helen & Amos Newcombe Intensive Care Unit now features 17 private rooms, and treats critically ill patients who require advanced hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management/weaning and administration of cardiac medications requiring monitoring and titration.
