HealthAlliance Names Beth Howard Social Worker of the Year

Kingston, NY – Jul. 19, 2010 – HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley announced Beth Howard, LMSW with the first HealthAlliance Social Worker of the Year Award. Ms. Howard is a social worker for the Mental Health Department located at Benedictine Hospital campus. In honor of Social Worker Month which was in May, HealthAlliance created a program to recognize a social worker who brings distinction to the field or specific role; one who values their work and demonstrates worth to clients served; and performs with a team to inspire.

Benedictine Hospital provides the only specialized in-hospital services for mental health patients in Ulster County. The department provides psychiatric inpatient care and treatment to patients who can function comfortably in a more open environment and anticipate discharge. There are numerous group therapy, arts and activities, and occupational therapies available for patients to enjoy.

The award recognizes Ms. Howard’s career as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). She has a passion for the patient’s needs and is dedicated to providing the best possible care to the patients. Ms. Howard is also very involved in the community. She volunteered for Americorp and spent a year in Africa for a grass-roots non-profit organization. Ms. Howard graduated from SUNY New Paltz earning her Bachelors degree in psychology and she received her Masters degree from SUNY Albany in social work.

“Ms. Howard has demonstrated great maturity and professionalism beyond her years of experience, said Margo McGilvrey, Chief Nursing Officer, HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley. “She keeps the well being and safety of her patients at the center of all she does. She is a credit to her profession and an asset to HealthAlliance on our journey to patient family-centered care.”
