Diabetes Education Center

Overview

HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley’s Diabetes Education Center is committed to providing individuals with the skills and knowledge to manage diabetes and prevent diabetic complications. The Diabetes Education Center is also a community resource center where we host trainings and educational programs and offer information resources for our community to learn about diabetes. Our Diabetes Educational Program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association for meeting its high-educational standards and for offering quality self-management diabetes education.

At the Diabetes Education Center, the Certified Diabetes Educator specializes in self management classes, individualized and group sessions focusing on many aspects relating to diabetes, including:

  • Individual assessment
  • A description of the diabetes disease process and treatments
  • Nutritional management and counseling
  • Blood glucose monitoring — goals and the use of meters
  • Diabetes medications — oral and insulin administration
  • Exercise
  • Psychosocial adjustment
  • Short-term and long-term complications
  • Setting personal goals to improve health
  • Pregnancy and diabetes
  • Other topics based on individual needs
  • Free monthly support groups

The Diabetes Education Center also offers education and training to adults and teens with Type 1, Type 2 or gestational diabetes. Insulin pump and sensor training is also provided.
