Audiology Services

Our goal is to improve hearing and communication for people of all ages.

At HealthAlliance, our Audiology Services specialists assess and treat auditory sensory function. Our expertise combines precision testing, informed interpretation and thoughtful strategy development toward workable hearing-loss solutions with aural rehabilitation and assistive devices, including hearing aids.

Our audiologists can evaluate your hearing, determine whether you have a hearing loss and make recommendations for hearing health care which may include a referral to a physician or recommendations for hearing aids. In some cases, recommendations for modifications in your environment or a child’s academic environment may be advised.

Our team of specialists serves children and adults with evaluation and treatment services including:

  • Comprehensive Audiological Evaluations (Evaluations of hearing)
  • Middle Ear Analysis (Tympanometry)
  • Eustachian Tube Dysfunction Testing
  • Acoustic Reflex Testing
  • Pediatric Audiometry
  • Newborn Hearing Screening/Re-screening
  • Hearing Aid Evaluations

An Audiologist is a licensed health care professional who identifies, assesses and manages disorders of hearing and balance. In addition, audiologists dispense hearing aids. Our audiologists are NYS Licensed Doctors of Audiology (Au.D.).
You should seek the services of an audiologist if you or someone you know is having difficulty hearing. Indications of a hearing problem include:
  • Difficulty hearing or understanding speech.
  • Difficulty following conversation.
  • Avoiding interaction in groups or noisy situations.
  • Ringing in one or both ears.
  • You think your child is speaking differently or not speaking at all when compared to other children of the same age.
  • As an infant, your child does not respond to sounds or voices.

The first thing your audiologist will do is take a detailed history. Following history, the audiologists will:

  • Examine the external ear canal.
  • Measure the flexibility of the tympanic membrane (eardrum).
  • Measure responses to sounds of different pitches.
  • Measure responses to speech at different levels of loudness.
  • Explain the test procedures and test results.
  • Provide education regarding anatomy and physiology of hearing.
  • Provide education regarding degree and configuration of hearing loss.
  • Prescription from physician for hearing evaluation.
  • List of current medications.
  • Results of previous hearing evaluations.
  • Another adult to watch small children during your evaluation.
  • A trusted friend or family member to listen to information provided during your visit.
