How Patients Rate Us
Learning from our past is an important component of planning for the future. This is especially important when it comes to quality – particularly when the healthcare landscape has changed so rapidly. The demands of this new landscape require us to be creative in our thinking and proactive in addressing the ever increasing demands for quality of care at a reasonable cost. As a team we are driven to continuously improve how we deliver that care, and thus continue to enhance the patient experience for everyone who comes to us. Here are just few examples that demonstrate our commitment and documented improvement:
- Our patient satisfaction scores have improved throughout the organization, especially in our Emergency Department.
- We successfully implemented our Electronic Health Record (EHR) and have worked continuously to improve and enhance not only the system, but our processes that integrate with it.
- The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association awarded the Broadway Campus with a “Get With The Guidelines Award” recognizing the organization’s commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines.
- We continue to excel in the publicly reported metrics such as infection rates.
- We achieved the top 10% nationally in many Core Measure categories.
HealthAlliance, in partnership with NRC Picker – nationally recognized as the largest patient satisfaction measurement firm in the U.S. – surveys inpatients from the three hospital campuses to measure aspects of the care experience and identify areas for improvement. This survey, known as the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey (HCAHPS – pronounced “H-caps”) is a standardized, random-sample telephone survey tool measuring patients’ ratings of their hospital experience. Hospitals across the nation conduct and report results of these surveys and are publicly reported on the U.S. Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services’ Hospital Compare web site.

To provide you with greater transparency of our quality, we have compiled resources with the most recent HealthAlliance data. These resources offer a straightforward review of our quality and compares HealthAlliance to State and National averages.
All hospitals are required to gather data from patient charts and report to the U.S. Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services. HealthAlliance has performed well in most of the quality metrics, achieving scores that equal or better State and National averages and several that are 1 or 2 percentage points below State or National averages.
Additionally, a variety of report cards exist, that are intended to improve the overall quality of care and help people make informed healthcare decisions. Due to the number of report cards, the process of evaluating healthcare organizations can become overwhelming. Each may provide ratings for different quality measures, while some may provide ratings on the same measures but with different ratings. These recognitions demonstrate our commitment to quality patient care and living our mission in every aspect of the services we provide.
HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley
Our Mary’s Ave Campus, Broadway Campus and Margaretville Hospital are fully accredited by DNV-GL. This independent body is dedicated to continuously improving the safety and quality of the nation’s health care through voluntary accreditation.
On November 10th, 2010, HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley was awarded as the first recipient of the “Quality of Life Award in the area of Health Care” from Pattern for Progress.
The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association awarded Broadway Campus with a Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award recognizing the organization’s commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines.
Broadway Campus’ Medical Imaging Department is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Consumer Reports gave Broadway Campus a perfect rating for preventing central-line infections in the Intensive Care Unit. The Broadway Campus is rated as one of the top performers in 10 states with a zero ICU central-line infection rate.
Broadway Campus’ Family Birth Place received the Certificate of Excellence Award from the New York State Department of Health for their Hepatitis B immunization program. The award recognized efforts to prevent perinatal transmission of the Hepatitis B virus.
Mary’s Ave Campus
In 2011, Mary’s Ave Campus was one of seven hospitals in New York State to receive a Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award, indicating that its patient safety ratings were in the top 5% of U.S. hospitals.
Mary’s Ave Campus was ranked 2nd in New York State for Safety by Consumer Reports in 2012 based on publicly-reported metrics for infections, readmissions, communication, scanning, complications and mortality.
The Dr. Joseph and Ester B. Hartman Sleep Center at the Mary’s Ave Campus is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).
The Fern Feldman Anolick Breast Center at the Mary’s Ave Campus is recognized as a Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence facility by the American College of Radiology.
Mary’s Ave Campus is recognized as a Community Cancer Hospital by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer.
Margaretville Hospital was named one of the top 100 Critical Access Hospitals nationally by the National Rural Health Association in 2011.
Mountainside Residential Care Center
Mountainside Residential Care Center has a 5-Star rating from Medicare’s “Nursing Home Compare,” which places the nursing home in the top 10% of nursing homes nationwide.
Mountainside was also recognized as a “Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality” in the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Healthcare Equality Index – an annual survey conducted by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation – for creating a welcoming and sensitive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender residents and staff.
Public Reporting on Cancer
The Commission on Cancer (CoC), a program of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS), recognizes cancer care programs, such as HealthAlliance’s, for their commitment to providing comprehensive, high-quality, and multidisciplinary patient centered care. The CoC is dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care. Through the CoC, HealthAlliance’s Oncology Department has access to reporting tools to aid in benchmarking and improving outcomes at your facility as well as educational and training opportunities, development resources and advocacy.
