Khurram Farooq, MD, Joins Margaretville Hospital as Hospitalist

news item

HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), welcomes Khurram Farooq, MD, as a hospitalist at WMCHealth's Margaretville Hospital.

Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Farooq focuses on the general medical care of hospitalized patients, providing medical continuity throughout patient stays. He also communicates closely with patients' primary care providers at admission, during the hospital stays and at discharge to ensure that those providers and any necessary specialists are informed and engaged throughout their patients' hospital care.

This continuity of care has been shown to increase patient satisfaction, reduce hospital lengths of stay and lessen the chances of being rehospitalized, which overall improves the cost and effectiveness of care.

Dr. Farooq earned his doctor of medicine degree from the Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica.

He completed a residency in family medicine at HealthAlliance Hospitals in Kingston.

While in medical school, he organized a health clinic in Dominica, helping families understand how best to care for basic health and how to treat chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, chronic kidney disease and sickle cell disease.

Originally from Floral Park, N.Y., on Long Island, Dr. Farooq lives in Woodstock and says he loves the mountains.
