The Westchester Medical Center Health Network's (WMCHealth) eHealth telemedicine program – which provides 24/7 complementary care to more than 100 intensive care unit (ICU) patients daily on hospital campuses across the Hudson Valley – has been recognized as one of the nation's top telemedicine programs three consecutive times in a national quality survey.*

The survey, which measures several, key ICU patient health indicators such as blood sugar levels, ventilator settings and venous thromboembolism prophylaxis, collects data from more than 50 telemedicine hubs monitoring patients in over 300 hospitals across the United States. WMCHealth's program ranked first, second and third in the last three quality surveys.

"Quality is paramount in our patient care model and our team has worked diligently to reach this standard," said Corey Scurlock, MD, MBA, Medical Director of WMCHealth's eHealth program.  "Many of the telemedicine programs surveyed are operated by the nation's largest and most prestigious academic medical centers, some of which have been managing telemedicine programs for several years.

"Our program was built from the ground up, just few years ago and this recognition is proof positive of eHealth's operational success. It is also a testament to our staff's clinical skill and unwavering dedication to our patients, many of whom are critically ill or injured."

An Investment in the Health of the Hudson Valley
WMCHealth's telemedicine program was launched in 2015 to improve healthcare outcomes in New York's 6,200-square-mile Hudson Valley region. At its core is the network's 5,500-square-foot eHealth Center, which boasts 20 multimedia stations equipped with the latest telehealth patient monitoring technologies and software. The eHealth Center is staffed around the clock by highly-trained clinicians that serve, remotely, as a complement to the dedicated bedside teams in the ICUs at Westchester Medical Center, the flagship of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network and MidHudson Regional Hospital, also a member of Westchester Medical Center Health Network.

Using the eHealth Center's state-of-the-art, telehealth technology, the expertly-trained medical staff accurately monitors more than 100 patients in eight intensive care units from this centralized location. Vital signs, medications, blood test results, X-rays and other pertinent information from bedside monitors are shared with eHealth control center by secure, high-speed data lines.

eICU consultations through eHealth are also available at HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus in Kingston.

Additional Telemedicine Services
WMCHealth's eHealth program is the only one of its kind based in the Hudson Valley and serving Hudson Valley patients.  In addition to the ICU services, today eHealth offers the following services:

  • TeleTrauma at MidHudson Regional Hospital, HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus and Margaretville Hospital, a member of WMCHealth
  • TeleStroke at HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus and Margaretville Hospital
  • Mobile ICU in transfer ambulances operated by WMCHealth.

In addition to WMCHealth member hospitals, eHealth services are available to other hospitals and medical organizations in the Hudson Valley.  Those interested in learning more about WMCHealth's eHealth program and how it can be integrated into their healthcare services can call the eHealth Center at (914) 493-1040.
