A Commitment to Breastfeeding

HealthAlliance Hospital is recognized as “Baby Friendly” by Baby Friendly USA and the World Health Organization for our superior care and for our instruction and assistance to mothers who choose to breastfeed their babies. As a recognized “Baby Friendly” hospital, HealthAlliance adheres to the highest standards of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.

These standards are built on the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, a set of evidence-based practices recommended by WHO and UNICEF for optimal infant feeding support in the precious first days of a newborn’s life.

Breastfeeding can reduce infant hospitalizations and pediatrician visits, studies show.

Breast milk helps prevent ear and chest infections, stomach upsets, diabetes, sudden infant death syndrome and eczema. Breastfeeding can also reduce a mother’s chances of getting ovarian cancer, breast cancer, cardiac disease or weak bones later in life.

Our lactation consultants and counselors will provide you with the support you need to get off to a good breastfeeding start, continue after returning to work and overcome any nursing challenges you face along the way.

We are also committed to ensuring that all patients receive quality care in an unbiased culture of inclusion and acceptance. If you want to nurse your baby, whoever you are, whatever your story is, we’re here to help.

We also support parents who choose to formula-feed their babies, providing support, information and education about safe formula-feeding.
