Selecting a Doctor

mom and baby

We recommend that you choose a doctor or midwife early in your pregnancy, making an appointment to see the office and meet staff in the group. Your family doctor or midwife will make rounds each morning to examine your newborn. They will come and introduce themselves and talk to you about your baby each day during your stay, answering any questions you may have. If you choose to follow-up with a doctor who does not have pediatric privileges at the Family Birth Center, then a doctor on staff at HealthAlliance Hospital will see your baby during your stay and instruct you as to when you should follow up with your chosen doctor after discharge.

For more information, please call the Family Birth Center at 845.334.2700 ext. 2241.

  • Ask your obstetrician, family doctor, midwife, friends and neighbors for recommendations.
  • Contact your insurance company for assistance.
  • Schedule a prenatal visit during your pregnancy. This visit is recommended, preferably when both you and your significant other can attend. The purpose of the prenatal visit is to help you select a doctor for your baby and establish a long-term supportive relationship. Doctors will introduce themselves and discuss their childcare practices and philosophy. They will outline schedules for well-baby visits and immunizations. They will ask for a family medical history.
