2020 WMCHealth Cardiovascular Symposium for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals

This WMCHealth Cardiovascular Symposium for Nurses and Allied Healthcare Professionals will focus on cardiac wellness by reviewing topics regarding prevention of many aspects of cardiovascular care. This course will include a review of the 2019 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Guidelines for Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease, including a review of current recommendations for aspirin and statin administration, diet, nutrition and smoking cessation. There will be a session on cardiothoracic surgical interventions to reduce the risk of stroke, enhanced recovery post-surgical interventions to prevent complications, and a review of the newer indications for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) to prevent a surgical approach. Telehealth and its impact on cardiac wellness and prevention will be discussed. There will be a “meet the experts” luncheon session to learn the basics of reading cardiac echos, electrocardiograms and chest X-rays.
