Coronavirus (COVID-19): Maintaining a Safe and Effective Care Environment

A safe and effective care environment is our highest priority, and Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) hospitals and medical practices have undertaken the necessary steps to protect our patients, visitors and workforce as the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation evolves.

Mountainside Residential Care Center has resumed in-person, socially distanced visitation — by appointment. Under the rules, Mountainside must still meet specific guidelines outlined by the New York State Department of Health, including, but not limited to, complying with all New York state and federal requirements, providing access to adequate COVID-19 PCR testing, having written protocols for staff and visitor screening and resident monitoring, and no new onsets of COVID-19 among staff members or residents for a period of no less than 14 days. Here’s how to make an appointment for an in-person visit:

To Schedule A Visit
  • Call Mountainside at 845.586.1800 and ask for the receptionist. She will schedule an in-person visit for you with your loved one.
  • DURING THIS CALL and when you arrive for your scheduled visit, you will be asked to answer COVID-19 screening questions, such as:
    • Are you experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms? These may include:
      • Fever or chills
      • Cough
      • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
      • Fatigue
      • Muscle or body aches
      • Headache
      • New loss of taste or smell
      • Sore throat
      • Congestion or runny nose
      • Nausea or vomiting
      • Diarrhea
    • Have you been diagnosed with COVID-19 or been exposed to anyone recently who tested positive?

Visiting Guidelines

  • Visits are scheduled from 1–4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Visits are limited to 20 minutes.
  • We allow 2 visitors per resident.
  • Anyone age 16 or younger must be accompanied by someone 18 or older.
  • You may visit your loved one indoors or outdoors, weather permitting. Indoor visits take place in a well-ventilated, safe, designated area on Mountainside’s first floor. Outdoor visits take place in a safe, designated area near the facility.

Visitors and residents must wear face masks for the entire time of every visit, both indoors and outdoors.

COVID-19 and PCR Testing

  • Visitors may request a COVID-19 PCR test when they schedule their visit. Call Mountainside at 845.586.1800 and ask for the receptionist.
  • You may also schedule a COVID-19 PCR test at any time by calling Margaretville Hospital at 845.586.2631, ext. 3141.

What is a PCR test?
The nose swab PCR test, or “polymerase chain reaction test,” is widely considered the “gold standard” for diagnosing COVID-19 because it’s the most accurate and reliable test.
A positive test means you likely have COVID-19. A negative test means you probably did not have COVID-19 when you were tested.

Who should get a PCR test for COVID-19?
Get tested:

  •  If you have symptoms of COVID-19 (see above).
  • If you have been within 6 feet of someone for 15 minutes or more who has tested positive for COVID-19.

When will you get your PCR test results?
You should receive the results as early as 24 hours after your test is completed, but it may take several days, depending on how long it takes the sample to reach the laboratory and how many other samples are in the queue to be tested.

Please read our Pandemic Emergency Plan (PEP).  Our PEP is available upon request.
