Coronavirus (COVID-19): Maintaining a Safe and Effective Care Environment

A safe and effective care environment is our highest priority, and Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) hospitals and medical practices have undertaken the necessary steps to protect our patients, visitors and workforce as the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation evolves. 

Visitation

As of November 17, 2021, visitation can happen at Mountainside Residential Care Center at any time of the day (24/7), for any length of time, and with no limit on the number of visitors.  Appointments are not necessary prior to visiting your loved one.  We know that this will be extremely beneficial to our residents’ emotional wellbeing!

There are some “core principles of COVID-19 infection prevention” that do have to be followed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone—residents, staff members and visitors--at Mountainside Residential Care Center.  This includes:

*The continuation of screening all visitors who come to Mountainside.  Visitors who have a positive viral test for COVID-19, symptoms of COVID-19, or currently meet the criteria for quarantine, should not enter the facility.  This screening will take place at the Reception Desk in Mountainside with visitors receiving a colored wristband indicating that they have been screened.
*Good hand hygiene utilizing an alcohol based hand rub.
*Face covering or mask (covering mouth and nose) and physical distancing at least six feet between people.  (At present, Delaware County community level of transmission is high so masks and physically distancing should be maintained at all times.  However, if the resident and his/her visitors are all fully vaccinated AND there is no one else in the room—e.g. other residents and/or staff members, they may choose not to wear face coverings.)

Visitors who are unable to adhere to the core principles of COVID-19 infection prevention should not be permitted to visit or will be asked to leave.

 Where can visits take place?  At this time, visits can occur either in the resident’s room or in Club Med.  If you are visiting a resident in his/her room, we ask that you be able to physically distance (If you have more than 2 visitors, it is unlikely that you can maintain physical distance in most of our rooms).  If the resident does have a roommate, we would ask that you speak to a staff member before entering the room to determine if the visit can occur in the room and/or if the visit should be held in a common area for the safety and wellbeing of the roommate.  We also ask that visitors limit their movement about the facility—going directly to/from the area of visitation when entering the unit and not going to any additional areas on the unit.

For those who are not able to visit and/or who want to have an alternative, we encourage you to  schedule FaceTime and/or Zoom visits through our Activities Department.  Appointments can be scheduled by contacting Donna Rossman, our Director of Activities, at 845-586-1800 or Donna.Rossman@hahv.org.

Finally, residents are permitted to leave the facility as they choose.  Residents will be reminded to follow all recommended infection prevention practices including wearing a face covering or mask, physical distancing and hand hygiene and to encourage those around them to do the same.  If residents leave the facility for more than 24 hours, the resident will require Covid-19 testing as a new admission/readmission.

  • When you arrive for your scheduled visit, you will be asked to answer COVID-19 screening questions, such as:
    • Are you experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms? These may include:
      • Fever or chills
      • Cough
      • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
      • Fatigue
      • Muscle or body aches
      • Headache
      • New loss of taste or smell
      • Sore throat
      • Congestion or runny nose
      • Nausea or vomiting
      • Diarrhea
    • Have you been diagnosed with COVID-19 or been exposed to anyone recently who tested positive?
wab PCR test, or “polymerase chain reaction test,” is widely considered the “gold standard” for diagnosing COVID-19 because it’s the most accurate and reliable test.
A positive test means you likely have COVID-19. A negative test means you probably did not have COVID-19 when you were tested.

When will you get your PCR test results?
You should receive the results as early as 24 hours after your test is completed, but it may take several days, depending on how long it takes the sample to reach the laboratory and how many other samples are in the queue to be tested.
